Bryan Singer – Battle Creek

Battle creek was a 2015 crime drama written by the Breaking Bad creator Vince Gillian and the House creator David Shore. It might seem strange for a blockbuster movie director like Bryan Singer to sign on to direct the TV pilot episode for Battle Creek but it actually made sense, seeing as he had done the same in House MD years before which went on to be a huge success, with Singer serving as executive producer for the shows 8 seasons.

The series follows partners, Detective Russ Agnew and FBI agent Milton Chamberlain, who band together, tasked with cleaning up the streets of Battle Creek, Michigan. The two detectives have opposing views, there’s Russ, the standout cop of an underfunded force whose world gets turned upside down by Milton, the straight out of central dreamboat FBI agent with access to cutting edge equipment.

Singer was fresh off of directing X-Men: Days of future past (2014) when he picked up Battle Creek and already had X-Men: Apocalypse sequel lined up to add to his blockbuster collection, so it was a bit of a break for him. There might have been pressure on Singer to helm Vince Gillian’s first TV project since Breaking Bad and the results were some good reviews, 7.2 IMDB rating and finishing out the 13- episode series order, but unfortunately it wasn’t renewed. Perhaps it just wasn’t the right time for this show, nonetheless it didn’t hurt Singers career and he’s still known as the director that can do both- big hit blockbuster movies and best known TV series, we look forward to finding out what the next string to his bow is.
