LEIGON

Released : 08 FEB 2017

David Haller (Dan Stevens) has a shaky grip on reality. When he is hospitalised, after a suicide attempt and a diagnosis of schizophrenia, a chance meeting with another patient, Sydney Barret (Rachel Keller), causes him to question if he is indeed mentally ill. In fact, David is a mutant – a mutant of immense power.

The first series tracks David’s journey towards harnessing his own abilities and defeating his personal demons, with the assistance of Melanie Bird’s team at Summerland. David faces threats including Division III (a covert branch of the US military) and a parasitic mutant named Shadow King (a nemesis of Professor X in the X-Men comic books). The Shadow King is deeply intertwined with David’s past. Legion not only presents viewers with an unreliable narrator, but with a central character who can alter reality, create alternate universes and reconstruct memory. We are invited to reconsider what is real and what is a fictional vision at every juncture, with much of the season unravelling within David’s mindscapes.

In the second and third seasons we learn more about David’s remarkable origins, the methods of revenge inflicted on him by the Shadow King, and the characters are tasked with changing the past in order to alter the present. As the series unravel, David becomes a cult-leader and we begin to reappraise his superhero versus supervillain status; what is real and who can be trusted?

This critically acclaimed, sci-fi psychological thriller series is comprised of 27 episodes over three seasons. The show was produced by FX Productions in association with Marvel Television, and sits within the X-Men universe. It was created by Noah Hawley who also served as showrunner. Legion received positive reviews for its ambitious and inventive approach to the comic-book genre.
