Valkyrie

It is 1944 and the allies are closing in on Berlin. Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, who has become severely disillusioned with Hitler’s regime, meets with three important figures of the resistance: General Goerdeler, General Beck and Witzleben. They discuss a plot to assassinate Hitler. Stauffenberg agrees to help and later suggests they engage Operation Valkyrie, a risky plan that brings in the Reserve Army to keep order should anything disrupt communications from Hitler (if he is killed). Stauffenberg, soon finding himself in charge of the plan, has Hitler sign-off on the rewritten order to have the Reserve Army (rather than the SS) take control if communications are lost. In the process, Stauffenberg receives Hitler’s praises for his commitment and the injuries he incurred as a German Officer.

The plan takes shape quickly; Stauffenberg will place a bomb in Hitler’s bunker, the Wolf’s Lair, and then return to Berlin to take charge of the operation and round up the SS and Goebbels. However, as the scheme unfolds, a catastrophic mix of bad luck and human fallibility conspire to thwart the mission, leaving war-torn Europe hanging in the balance.

Based on the true story of the 1944 assassination attempt of Hitler, this historical World War II thriller was written by Christopher McQuarrie and Nathan Alexander, and directed by Bryan Singer.
